Spring
(Outdoor Track)
Spring season starts middle of March, the weather can sometimes be very cold still. We encourage the athletes to pay attention to the weather and dress warm if needed. The spring season ends for some athletes middle of May, and for others early in June. We have 5 dual meets where we travel to Reading HS, Burlington HS, Lexington HS, Stoneham HS, and our home track for these meets. Although these are classified as dual meets 4 teams are always competing at these meets. This is due to limited tracks, and the timing companies. But with 4 total teams competing our times and marks only count against the team we are facing off against. We do have a few invitational meets which mostly take place on the weekends.
Practice is from 2:50 - 4:50 Monday - Friday. Saturday practices due occur but are not every Saturday, we let the athletes know ahead of time if Saturday practice will happen for that week, and those times are from 8 - 10 am.
Scoring
Scoring in Spring track is very similar to indoor track. For every event besides relays 9 total points can be scored. 1st place gets 5 points, 2nd place gets 3 points, and 3rd place gets 1 point. This is the same for both running and field events. Each relay is worth 5 points. If you win the relay it's 5, and if you lose it's 0. There is 136 possible total points to be scored in spring track making the magic number 69.
For invitationals, the meet will specify who can medal, but usually it is top 8.
For State meets top 8 will medal, but also score points. The team with the most points in a state meet wins. 1st and 2nd overall teams get a trophy. Here is how the scoring works
1st = 10 points
2nd = 8 points
3rd = 6 points
4th = 5 points
5th = 4 points
6th = 3 points
7th = 2 points
8th = 1 point
