Winter
(Indoor Track)

Winter season starts early December, typically the Monday after Thanksgiving weekend. We start the season out on the track, but once the snow and freezing cold comes we have practice inside the school, utilizing the gym and hallways. Distance runners will go outside more than sprinters and field events because distance runners can use the plowed sidewalks and street for runs whereas sprinters and field athletes require the track. We strongly encourage all athletes to communicate with their coach and captains to dress appropriately.

The dual meets all take place in Boston at 3 different locations. the Track at New Balance, Reggie Lewis Center, and BU.

Practice is from 2:45 - 4:45 Monday - Friday. Saturday practices due occur but are not every Saturday, we let the athletes know ahead of time if Saturday practice will happen for that week and those times are from 8 - 10 am.

Scoring

For every event in dual meets besides relays 9 total points can be scored. 1st place gets 5 points, 2nd place gets 3 points, and 3rd place gets 1 point. This is the same for both running and field events. Each relay is worth 5 points. If you win the relay it's 5, and if you lose it's 0. There is 100 possible total points to be scored in winter track making the magic number 51.

For invitationals, the meet will specify who can medal, but usually it is top 8.

For State meets top 8 will medal, but also score points. The team with the most points in a state meet wins. 1st and 2nd overall teams get a trophy. Here is how the scoring works

1st = 10 points

2nd = 8 points

3rd = 6 points

4th = 5 points

5th = 4 points

6th = 3 points

7th = 2 points

8th = 1 point
